How to Search Vigo County Court Records
The main online path for Vigo County court records is Indiana MyCase, the public case search for courts using Odyssey. Vigo County uses Odyssey for the Circuit Court, all six Superior Court divisions, older abolished county divisions with archived cases, and Vigo/Terre Haute City Court. Use the case number when it is known. That is the cleanest route because Indiana cause numbers encode the county, court, date, case type, and sequence. Name searches can work well, but common names in Vigo County may return many results, and MyCase does not return more than 1,000 results. Older Terre Haute City Court cases may need a direct contact with the City Clerk because the city notes that online case information begins with cases filed on August 29, 2011, with only a small amount of older material online.

What Vigo County Court Records Show
A Vigo County court record is usually built around the Indiana cause number. The county code is 84. Public Access to Vigo County Court Records
Indiana gives broad public access to court records, but the access is not unlimited. Indiana Code Title 5 includes the Access to Public Records Act, which governs public records held by public agencies unless an exception applies. Restricted Vigo County Court Records
Some Vigo County court records are restricted even when the case type appears in MyCase. Juvenile delinquency, CHINS, many juvenile matters, adoption records, mental health proceedings, emergency detention records, protected-party details, Social Security numbers, confidential financial details, medical details, and sealed or expunged cases are not displayed the same way as ordinary public files. Protection order cases can also withhold the name and identifying information of protected persons. Public access means access to the non-confidential part of a record, not a right to every page in a file.
Expungement is handled through Indiana Code 35-38-9. The path depends on whether the record is an arrest without conviction, misdemeanor conviction, felony conviction, or another category. A person usually files in the court where the case arose, serves required agencies, and waits for prosecutor response or a court hearing. If an order is granted, the record may be sealed or removed from public access based on the order and statute. It is not safe to assume the record was destroyed.
Vigo County Court Record Copies
For copies, the county's Document Copies service page tells users to call the Clerk's Office. The clerk's general office is on the first floor of the Vigo County Courthouse, 33 South 3rd Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47807, and the general phone number is (812) 462-3211. The separate court-records request line is (812) 231-4499. The clerk page lists regular office hours as Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The document-copy path is important because MyCase warns that online information is not an official court record and may contain errors or omissions. MyCase can show public documents in many civil case types, all non-confidential documents in miscellaneous criminal cases, final orders and judgments in criminal cases, certain expungement orders, and appellate filings. But a missing document link does not prove the document is confidential. It may just not be online.

Older Vigo County Court Records
Older Vigo County court records can require a fallback chain. MyCase does not hold every older case or every document. Terre Haute City Court states that city court information is online for cases filed beginning August 29, 2011, with limited older material. Vigo Circuit and Superior Courts entered Odyssey on December 7, 2015, which helps explain why older records may be less complete online.
